You could pull your dog away from the fire hydrant, tree, squirrel or other dog as they pull and pull towards it. I believe with this method you will be pulling your dog from things for their entire life.
The alternative is to make a game OUTSIDE of the real life scenario and train there, then test in the real world.
out of ten times you will change the game to involve the following.
Get a bowl.
Hold your dog's collar (if they are comfortable with that--read this article if they are not)
Throw a treat in the bowl and say 'get it', release the collar and let your dog get it.
You are going to do this a lot
One out of ten times you will change the game to involve the following.
Hold the collar, put food in the bowl
Turn your dog to walk away from the bowl and feed one at a time 5 treats as you walk away. You can use a leash if this makes this part easier.
Then go back to the bowl and tell your dog to "get it"
You are building a framework of your dog wins A LOT. Where we all mess up as dog owners is we never let them get the thing! This game teaches your dog that when I say 'get it' you can have it! Other wise if we are walking away then we are walking away and there is a lot of value in that too! If you want help leveling up this game send me a message so we can chat!
